We drove the entire Bitterroot Valley in Montana, interviewing log companies. None seemed to be exactly what we needed. After interviewing the folks at Edgewood and seeing their work, we realized they were the perfect choice for our ranch development’s showpiece. Their system exudes 'handcrafted' but gave us the design flexibility we required. Our architect had designed a masterpiece lodge and we knew it would be a challenge to build. Nestled alone in a pristine granite canyon at the face of a 150 ft. waterfall, we did not take the decision lightly. They were a pleasure to work with and it’s even nicer then we hoped.

“I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know how impressed I was with your work. I started out in this business building hand-hewn log buildings and over the years have had the opportunity to see virtually hundreds of these structures throughout the west. I don’t believe, however, that I’ve seen finer workmanship, attention to detail or greater sensitivity to materials than is manifested in your work. As chairman of the Western Design Institute, I am always pleased to know that true craftsmanship and innovation continue to find patrons and flourish. From that perspective please feel free to use me as a reference any time and keep up the good work.”

“Edgewood’s unique log building approach provided a beautiful wall system that was simple to put together and even allowed for changes on site. Everyone that has come into our home comments on the unbelievable joinery displayed in the handcrafted log work. In fact, our building inspector said, ‘that is the most beautiful log home in Summit County, Colorado.”

“Brian and his team worked in a collaborative environment with our architect to specify and design incredibly detailed connections and joinery, resulting in visually impactful log trusses and columns. Our guests and clients constantly comment on the unique architecture and use of log/timber/metal in our recreation center and lodge. ”
Developer Chaparral Pines Clubhouse Arizona
Our architect originally designed our condominium complex to blend in with similar projects in the area. After discovering Brian and his team, we asked him to take the plans and redesign them to create a more impressive visual impact. Our construction schedule was tight however Big Cabin met and exceeded all of our scheduling, budget and quality goals.
Our sales were brisk and at a significantly higher price per square foot thanks to our relationship with Big Cabin.
My partner and I purchased the project after the first developer had gone bankrupt. Not wanting to make the same mistakes they had, we sought out a more intelligent approach to building an upscale ski-in/out authentic full log commercial project. We sent word out for referrals, did internet research, and interviewed log home companies. An old friend of mine told me about a company in Idaho that had impressed him. In hiring Edgewood to help us redesign and plan the project for success, we found a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise. Additionally their “hands-on” approach on-site proved invaluable when coupled with the very sophisticated and creative design horsepower they brought to the table. Their methods proved to not only be highly cost-effective, but very authentic and desirable to our future owners. Simply put, if we had not found Edgewood, we would likely have suffered the same fate at the first developer.

I introduced Big Cabin to this project because of their experience with the use of large specialized timber systems. The heavy snow load and long spans required for the exposed timber trusses presented a challenge. Brian and his team were able to provide the engineering and design to allow us to use full timbers rather than glulam beams. They cut all of the timbers for our project at their facility from massive standing dead Western Larch logs. Big Cabin’s access to rare timber resources allowed them to provide these massive timbers with a certified grade of Select Structural No. 1 Dense. The owner continues to enjoy comments from clients and customers regarding the use of natural timbers in their facility, rather than glulam beams.
